Rules of Play

Half court. First to 11. Call your own fouls. Play fast, play fair, play hard.

At a glance

  • First to 11

Win by 2 once it reaches 10-10.

  • 1s and 2s

1 point inside the arc, 2 outside.

  • One free throw

Worth the value of the shot you were fouled on.

  • Pick your format

Check ball or continuous, agreed before the game.

  • Clear the arc

After a miss, the ball goes past the arc before you attack.

  • The Wheel decides

Opening possession and any dispute. Its call is final.

  • Call your own fouls

    Games are self-officiated, except finals.

  • No shot clock

But keep it moving. Deliberate delays cost you.

The format

Games are played on a half court. The first player or team to 11 points wins.

Overtime

If the score reaches 10-10, play continues until one side leads by 2. 12-10 wins. 11-10, keep playing.

Officiating

Every game except the finals is self-officiated. Event officials reserve the right to make final rulings where required.

Possession

Tip-off and the Halfcourt Wheel

Before each game, the Halfcourt Wheel decides opening possession. Each side is given a colour, the wheel is spun, and the colour it lands on starts with the ball.

Choose your play style

Before the game begins, both sides agree on one of two possession formats. It stays in place for the whole game.

Option A

Check Ball Hoops

  • After every made basket, play stops.
  • Possession changes.
  • Play restarts with a check ball at the top of the key.

Rewards structure and setup play.

Option B

Continuous Hoops

  • After every made basket, play continues immediately.
  • The side scored against gains possession.
  • The ball must be cleared beyond the arc before attacking.

Rewards pace, pressure and transition play.

A basket attempted before the ball has been cleared beyond the arc does not count.

Can't agree? The Halfcourt Wheel decides who chooses.

After a missed shot

The defending side secures the ball and clears it beyond the arc. Once cleared, play continues.

Out of bounds

Possession goes to the side that did not touch the ball last. Play resumes with a check ball.

Fouls & free throws

Players call their own fouls. Be honest, be respectful, and call it immediately. Event officials may intervene if required.

  • Possession calls
  • Out-of-bounds decisions
  • Contested fouls
  • Simultaneous possession
  • Any other disputed ruling

The outcome of the Halfcourt Wheel is final. Play resumes immediately.
